UNIVERSITY OF CALGARY’S FORMULA SAE ELECTRIC TEAM

UCalgary Racing, formerly known as Schulich Racing, is an interdisciplinary team of students from the University of Calgary who design and manufacture an open-wheeled race car to compete in the Formula SAE series of competitions. From its inception in 1999, the team has grown to 70 members and has produced 19 vehicles. We aim to achieve excellence at competition, but also to develop skilled engineers and businesspeople.

FORMULA SAE

DESIGN.

Formula SAE is the world’s largest engineering student design competition. Students on UCalgary Racing are challenged to design +1000 individual components each year making up 72 major projects.

BUILD.

One of the unique benefits of joining a Formula SAE team, such as UCalgary Racing, is the amount of manufacturing you get to partake in. Students learn skills such as welding, machining, composite fabrication, mold making, etc.

BUSINESS.

Formula SAE can be very expensive with competitive EV cars costing $100,000+. Every Formula SAE team develops a Business team to work with the school and sponsors to acquire the funding needed to design and manufacture a competitive car.

COMPETE.

Competition is the fruit of our labour. Every year we compete against hundreds of universities around the world in design, cost, business, acceleration, skidpad, endurance, and autocross events.
